The journey back

13 Aug

So we’re all done. The final show was a great success, being our second biggest selling date of the run.

Myself (Gav), Colin, Brad and Mark are currently travelling back on the train in standard class.

Dan has just departed, having been accompanying Darell, Tom and Jonny in 1st class. They made sure we knew about their fancy advantages. Yeh anyway…

Word goes out to…

- Max, who is probably still in Edinburgh right now, and has to endure 14 hour bus journey back to Wiltshire. Haha.

- Daniel Fenton for making an appearance and seeing our show today. A true Antics legend, and the 2nd year running he has come to see us at Edinburgh!

- Charlie who left way too early today, and missed our last show! Gutted.

- Finally, Ashley McDowell who missed the 2nd half of our Fringe stay, to return to the delightful area of Manchester. We wish him well.

Well that’s about it, this is Gav signing off.
We should be back at Hallam in September for a Freshers show, so look out for that.

The weather turns

10 Aug

Another day in the depths of Scotland and the weather has finally turned, the rain has hit and doesn’t look like it will stop.
Still, we said our goodbyes to Ash and now await the return of Jonny. The punters are still rolling in with an audience of around 60 yesterday and 5* reviews from the audience.
Another day of flyering awaits in the rain and another early morning video blog is on its way!

Stay tuned,
Darell

More Antics arrive!

6 Aug

Day 4.

Nobody has been stabbed yet and the audience is slowly growing. The shows are going well, Dan and I have arrived. Whether the two are linked is still to be proved.
Still… another day another rubbish attempt at a video blog, this time however it will be uploaded so get ready for that. (Coming Soon)

Gonna keep this short and sweet, but in a nutshell Mark buggered off to the pub (winning). Brad and myself had a sensual lunch date. Somebody actually paid full price to see the show and we saw a very impressive improvised musical.
Life in the ‘apartment’ is testing however we are all still in good spirits, literally. There is a lot of gin.

All in all things are going well, Gav is satisfied with his show managing skills and Dan intends to make it up as we perform. If nothing else the rest of the week seems extremely promising, stay tuned guys, controversial / highly edited video blog coming soon.

Over and out,
Darell

Day 1

3 Aug

We arrived yesterday, but I’ll call that Day 0. It makes it easier to number according to the shows.

I got up before everyone else today to grab the first shower. The clamp that holds the shower head is broke, so you have to grab the head and just spray yourself. I thought this might be interesting to know… oh that and the oven doesn’t get hot.

Anyway, after breakfast I ventured out into the nearby streets in search of materials to construct signs. We’d got some cardboard, so we needed some kind of poles, gaffa tape and a marker pen.

Using the brilliant Around Me app for iOS, I found a nearby DIY store, and got the gaffa tape. The lovely shop person pointed me in the direction of a Timber retailer. It was a long walk, and an even longer walk back when I was carrying four 8 ft pieces of timber. With my black coat on. It was hot. Owww.

We all headed into town and visited our venue, C Venues on Chamber Street.

Ash, Jonny, Mark, Brad and Colin picked up flyers and headed for the Royal Mile to begin publicising! Colin did a great job of standing on a bollard and yelling lots; something I became quite familiar with last year. It was nice to see someone else have a go at that.

Myself and Charlie stayed at C Venues and began constructing the signage. When we finished, we joined the rest of the guys on the mile. The signage really helped to get us noticed, particularly the one that read “FREE TICKETS”.

Ash became our ‘Mystery Man’ and ran up the street. A nice couple had seen our tweets, and along with another person who overheard the free ticket opportunity, they legged it up the street to find Ash first. They were lucky enough to win our first pair of Mystery Man tickets.

We packed up on the Royal Mile and headed back to the venue.

Our show starts at exactly 4:45, but we got there just after 4. We all did a bit more flyering at the various exits of the venue, and then got together to get changed into our stage gear.

So the first show then. It was a ‘light’ audience, but a very keen one who engaged with the games well. They all seemed to really enjoy it, and I overheard someone say “that was brilliant” as they left. There were no hiccups, it all technically went well. We added two extra games in to hit the end time, and then we were out of there in a flash so the next production could get in and get ready.

Post show analysis took place in the beer garden. It was seriously hot! Gorgeous.

I write this back at the house now, we’ve eaten and are preparing to head back to the venue for a sort of “meet everyone” party kinda shindig!

Thanks for reading – feel free to let us know if you’d like to see more blogs, and if you want me to encourage other members of the troupe to contribute!
