We arrived yesterday, but I’ll call that Day 0. It makes it easier to number according to the shows.
I got up before everyone else today to grab the first shower. The clamp that holds the shower head is broke, so you have to grab the head and just spray yourself. I thought this might be interesting to know… oh that and the oven doesn’t get hot.
Anyway, after breakfast I ventured out into the nearby streets in search of materials to construct signs. We’d got some cardboard, so we needed some kind of poles, gaffa tape and a marker pen.
Using the brilliant Around Me app for iOS, I found a nearby DIY store, and got the gaffa tape. The lovely shop person pointed me in the direction of a Timber retailer. It was a long walk, and an even longer walk back when I was carrying four 8 ft pieces of timber. With my black coat on. It was hot. Owww.
We all headed into town and visited our venue, C Venues on Chamber Street.
Ash, Jonny, Mark, Brad and Colin picked up flyers and headed for the Royal Mile to begin publicising! Colin did a great job of standing on a bollard and yelling lots; something I became quite familiar with last year. It was nice to see someone else have a go at that.
Myself and Charlie stayed at C Venues and began constructing the signage. When we finished, we joined the rest of the guys on the mile. The signage really helped to get us noticed, particularly the one that read “FREE TICKETS”.
Ash became our ‘Mystery Man’ and ran up the street. A nice couple had seen our tweets, and along with another person who overheard the free ticket opportunity, they legged it up the street to find Ash first. They were lucky enough to win our first pair of Mystery Man tickets.
We packed up on the Royal Mile and headed back to the venue.
Our show starts at exactly 4:45, but we got there just after 4. We all did a bit more flyering at the various exits of the venue, and then got together to get changed into our stage gear.
So the first show then. It was a ‘light’ audience, but a very keen one who engaged with the games well. They all seemed to really enjoy it, and I overheard someone say “that was brilliant” as they left. There were no hiccups, it all technically went well. We added two extra games in to hit the end time, and then we were out of there in a flash so the next production could get in and get ready.
Post show analysis took place in the beer garden. It was seriously hot! Gorgeous.
I write this back at the house now, we’ve eaten and are preparing to head back to the venue for a sort of “meet everyone” party kinda shindig!
Thanks for reading – feel free to let us know if you’d like to see more blogs, and if you want me to encourage other members of the troupe to contribute!
